The More You Once Loved, the Less You Want to Mention

I remember when I was in school, everyone said that first love is beautiful, but how beautiful it is, it seems that no one can describe it. It can only be expressed by those who have experienced it.
But many people also say that although first love is beautiful, it often doesn’t last. So, this beauty remains only in the heart.
The deeper the love, the more painful it is in the future.
Back then, love was very pure. Holding hands may have been a significant emotional breakthrough for each other. Therefore, the vows to love each other until the end of time were sincere.
Sometimes, ideals are grand, but reality is harsh. Not everyone deeply in love will end up together. There are many external reasons, and uncontrollable factors can lead to different outcomes.
John and Emily both graduated from graduate school. They finally confirmed their relationship in the last year because they had known each other for a long time. Soon after, they met each other’s parents.
Emily’s parents were pleased with John’s gentle appearance and elegant manner. But one concern stood between them—John’s financial situation was not superior. This worried Emily’s mother the most. However, Emily said, “It’s okay. John is outstanding, and he will succeed one day. I’m willing to wait for him.” Her mother nodded silently.
On the other hand, John’s parents strongly objected, especially when they found out that John had agreed for Emily to pursue her career in her city in the future. For his parents, raising their son with hardship only to have him become someone else’s son, and that too at a distant place, was hard to accept.
Therefore, John’s parents arranged various blind dates for him, all of which he refused. Until one day, John’s mother knelt before him, pleading him to meet a wealthy girl. She said it wasn’t about coveting her family’s wealth, but rather, it was the daughter of her colleague, and everyone knew each other. Moreover, the girl was decent and a good choice for John.
This scene made it impossible for John to refuse. There was a sense of tears in his eyes. Subsequently, they met, and the girl’s parents were very pleased with John. Soon, discussions about marriage began.
John’s mother, who had been silent, said to her son who had been silent all day, “Everything we did was not to expect anything from the other party, but because our family conditions are not good. We have been looking forward to your graduation and job placement, and we don’t want you to start from scratch again. Everything was done from your perspective.”
This action is like a popular saying on the internet: “There is a kind of cold called a mother feeling that you are cold, and there is a kind of goodness called a mother feeling that you are good.”
John and Emily met as planned, ordered the food Emily loved, but throughout the process, John was not as talkative as before, especially regarding their future work and life.
After the meal, John silently looked up and met Emily’s eyes. He didn’t know how to speak, and finally, Emily said, “Let’s break up.” John was stunned. He looked at Emily, who smiled and said nothing, then left.
It turned out that before this, John’s mother had approached Emily and informed her of their decision.
Since then, they have had no contact, and John has smoothly moved forward with the girl from the blind date. But no one mentions the previous girl tactfully.
It’s not that John no longer loves her. At that time, in order to avoid breaking up, John was forced to do so. But external uncontrollable factors left him in a dilemma. Faced with family and love, he selfishly chose his family and gave up the love he thought would last a lifetime.
He thought of the beginning, but didn’t expect the ending. In the days ahead, John would recall every little detail of Emily, but only in the late night, secretly missing her. He knew he had let her down, but he also knew that he had sincerely loved her once, yet he was unwilling to mention it again. Bringing it up would only lead to guilt and heartache.
Love is like this. If it comes to a happy ending, it’s a perfect conclusion, but if not, it’s fate. Some love, the deeper it is, the less one wants to mention. Because once mentioned, it will only make oneself feel more guilty and distressed, and make oneself miss it more.
Love is truly subtle, so subtle that sometimes a word, a smile, or a gesture can touch the string in the heart that one doesn’t want to be touched again.
This shows that the past love was truly sincere and genuine, which is why it is handled with extreme care and not mentioned to anyone. The fear is that once touched, anything good or bad might happen.
