Due to this, Jack hesitated. Feeling uncomfortable about Jack’s hesitation, Nancy directly said, “My mom asking for a 500,000 dowry is not excessive. Also, I am my parents’ only child. After marrying you, I can’t always be by my parents’ side to take care of them. So, 500,000 is worth it for you.”
But Jack found this ridiculous when faced with Nancy’s words.
He directly told Nancy, “I am also my parents’ only child. You know my current situation. I can’t come up with 500,000 for marriage. If you want to marry, go ahead. If not, it’s fine.”
Out of anger, Nancy left without a word. Not long after, Jack sent a message canceling the engagement. Nancy, in tears, said to her mother, “Mom, he doesn’t want me anymore.”
Her mother, feeling disdainful, bluntly said, “Can’t even afford the 500,000 dowry, so pathetic. It’s better not to marry such a man.”
Although her mother comforted Nancy, she knew it was all an act.
The 500,000 dowry was already a high amount for them. The mother’s actions did not bring happiness but made her lose the relationship. She didn’t know if it was right or wrong but regretted it.
In real life, many families have conflicts over dowry issues. Different people may have different views on dowry, but I think it’s just a formality and should be about respect rather than the amount.

Marriage is a significant event in life. In real life, dowry only symbolizes the respect the groom has for the bride. When two families come together, the most important thing is mutual respect and understanding.
Dowry is just a formality, and its amount should consider the families’ financial situations. Parents should consider their children’s happiness. If the issue of dowry leads to a breakup in the end, it’s not worth it. As long as the children can be happy together, parents should not intervene too much.
Marriage is a lifelong choice for two people. Marrying the right person can bring happiness and sweetness in life. If the marriage is unhappy, it will only consume each other’s youth.
